From what I can tell, it was sitting and wriggling on top of an ant nest. It was probably anting. This is where the bird deliberately gets ants into its feathers; Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anting) tells me that nobody can quite agree what anting is for, but it might be to do with cleaning. Ants spray defensive chemicals which might help kill parasites. Spicy.
